Himani Narwal strangled by social media friend, body found in suitcase
In a startling development, Himani Narwal, a 22-year-old Congress worker, was brutally killed in her Rohtak home, apparently by a man she had been friends with on social media. After an argument, the accused, Sachin, a married Jhajjar mobile shop owner, strangled her with a mobile charger, packed her body in a bag, and then discarded it close to the Rohtak-Delhi highway.
Social Media Connection Turn Fatal
Sachin and Himani had met on social media, and he had been a regular visitor to her house in Vijay Nagar, Rohtak, where she stayed alone, the police said. As per the ongoing investigation, Sachin, a resident of Khairpur village in Jhajjar, stayed overnight at Himani’s house on February 27, a day before the crime. The following morning, on February 28, an argument broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Sachin tied her hands with a dupatta and strangled her using a mobile charger.
Attempt to Cover Up Crime
He disposed of her body after the killing by wrapping it in a quilt and shoving it into a suitcase so as not to leave clues.
Interacting with the media, Krishan Kumar Rao, ADGP, Rohtak Range, said, “Sachin also burgled her home, taking valuables such as her mobile phone, laptop, and jewellery, before carrying the stolen goods on her scooter and stashing them at his shop in Jhajjar.”
Disposing of Body
In the evening, Sachin returned to her residence to dispose of the body. With the suitcase in hand, he travelled by auto to Rohtak's Delhi bypass and then took a bus to Sampla, which is 26 km away. After reaching there, he walked almost 80 meters and left the suitcase in bushes nearby before escaping.
Enquiries indicated that Himani and Sachin were known to each other for a year and a half after having met on Facebook. He used to visit her home often during the last seven months. In the meantime, her mother and brother had been living in Delhi for quite some time.
The police found the body of Himani on March 1, dumped inside a suitcase along the Sampla bus stand on the Rohtak-Delhi road.
People passing by at the Sampla bus stand observed the suitcase and informed the authorities. After that, police, along with a forensic team, reached the area and discovered the body of Narwal inside.
According to officials, the neck of the victim was bound with a dupatta, while mehendi was found on her hands. Narwal hailed from Rohtak's Vijay Nagar region.
The body was brought to PGIMS Rohtak for the conduct of a post-mortem test.
