Historic Moment for Women’s Cricket in India! Team India Wins the World Cup and Lands a Rs. 51 Crore Prize From BCCI, Backed by a Huge 300% Prize-Money Hike from ICC
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a cash reward of Rs. 51 crore for the women’s national side after their landmark win in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the entire squad, coaches, and support staff will share the payout, underscoring a new chapter for women’s cricket.
Saikia also credited Jay Shah for driving a 300 % increase in women’s prize money globally. Under Shah’s leadership, the ICC raised the winner’s purse from US $2.88 million to US $14 million.
India’s Historic Win and Record Prize Boost
The women’s team clinched the title after bowling out the South Africa women’s cricket team for 246 in the final, sealing India’s first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup victory.
This reward marks a significant moment in the evolution of women’s cricket in India. Earlier in the tournament, the ICC had announced a total prize pool of $13.88 million (approx Rs. 122.5 crore) for the event—a nearly three-fold increase over the previous edition.
However, the Rs. 51 crore bonus falls short of the Rs. 125 crore awarded to the men’s team following their 2024 T20 World Cup win. That gap has sparked debate around reward parity in Indian cricket.
A Turning Point for Women’s Cricket in India

The BCCI’s move sends a clear signal: women’s cricket now demands and deserves serious investment and recognition. It also reflects the shifting landscape where international bodies and national boards alike confront long-standing gender gaps around reward and visibility.
This financial achievement and the rise in the global prize money have introduced a new chapter for women’s cricket in India. The future now requires continuous backing, facilities, and unique professional growth to continue with this development.
