While filmmakers cite technical issues as the cause for this abrupt delay, sources suggest that the Madras High Court order is the reason. The Legal Tussle: Eros vs. 14 Reels over Rs. 28 Crore

Eros International Media Limited secured an injunction against the release of Akhanda 2 as the Madras High Court issued this order on the eve of the film's theatre release date. This appeal refers to a long-standing case against 14 Reels Entertainment Private Limited. According to the sources, Eros International Media Limited is legally entitled to collect approximately Rs. 28 crore from 14 Reels.

The film was being released by 14 Reels Plus LLP, a related group entity, but Eros argued that this was "an indirect attempt to flout the arbitral award." They sought urgent interim measures to enforce their financial obligations. The Division Bench granted the injunction restraining any release or distribution of Akhanda 2. This block remains until the arbitral award amount is paid to Eros.

The abrupt postponement of Akhanda 2 caused widespread confusion and disappointment. This decision came just hours before the film's grand worldwide release. Premiere shows across India, particularly in the Nizam region, were suddenly cancelled. Ticketing platforms froze, leaving exhibitors unsure about updates.

The production house, 14 Reels Plus, issued a statement on X, expressing regret that the film would not be released "due to unavoidable circumstances." They acknowledged the disappointment of every fan and movie lover awaiting the film. The makers assured that they were "working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest."
