Delhi Police Detain Ajay Gupta as Officials Intensify Inquiries into the Tragic Goa Blaze

Ajay Gupta, identified as a business partner of nightclub owner Saurabh Luthra, was detained by the Delhi Police and briefly questioned while being escorted from a vehicle by officers. 

Surrounded by media, Gupta told reporters, “I am just a partner. I don't know anything.” Police confirmed he will be flown to Goa for further questioning in the probe into the Goa nightclub fire at Birch by Romeo Lane.

What Happened at Birch by Romeo Lane

The fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora killed at least 25 people in the early hours of Sunday. Initial accounts say chaos and blocked exits hampered escape. Witnesses and survivors narrated to the authorities chaotic scenarios during which employees and customers fought for their lives. 

The Goa Nightclub Fire accident has also resulted in repeated and thorough inspections of safety protocols and emergency exits at nightlife venues.

Owners’ Movements and Legal Notices

After the blaze, primary owners Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra reportedly flew to Phuket on an IndiGo flight. Authorities issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) and an Interpol Blue Corner Notice against the owners. 

The LOC had also been issued against Ajay Gupta before his detention. Police sources said the international notices aim to ensure accountability as inquiries progress.

Delhi Police confirmed that Gupta’s detention follows investigative leads and the LOC. Officials said Gupta will be transferred to Goa for detailed interrogation and possible charges depending on findings. 

Authorities are collecting forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and witness statements. Local prosecutors and the Goa Police are expected to coordinate with central agencies, given the cross-jurisdictional aspects and international notices.
