2025-Oscars-‘Anora’

The 97th Academy Awards: Who Won Big

While the golden confetti from the 2024 Awards has barely settled, Hollywood’s 97th Academy Awards has concluded with “Anora” as the night's big winner, securing 5 honors, including the Best Picture Award.

The ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, witnessing spectacular performances and emotional speeches.
Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’ was dominant with 5 awards, namely Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Screenplay.

However, Anora wasn't the only movie to shine. Adrien Brody won the Best Actor award for ‘The Brutalist’ for his mesmerizing performance and portrayal. Lol Crawley won the Best Cinematographer for the visual mastery in ‘The Brutalist.’

Beyond the awards, the red carpet was the extravaganza of high fashion and celebration of stunning stars wearing sparking trends. From Demi Moore in Giorgio Armani Privé and Chopard to Timothee Chalamet in custom Givenchy. Mikey Madison was a spectacle for Dior and Tiffany & Co., and Adrien Brody served in Giorgio Armani Privé Made to Measure.

And alas! Adam Sandler gets called out by the host, Conan O'Brien, for breaking the formal dress code.

In Mikey Madison’s words

After winning her first-ever Oscar, Mikey Madison, 25, described her win as “surreal.” Taking to the stage, she expressed her gratitude and reaffirmed her support for the sex worker community. “I will continue to support the community and be an ally,” she said. I grew up in Los Angeles, but Hollywood always felt so far away from me. This is a dream come true. I’m probably going to wake up tomorrow.

Anuja’s Oscar Nomination

‘Anuja,’ a short film directed by Adam J. Graves and backed by Priyanka Chopra, along with Guneet Monga and Mindy Kaling, received a nomination for Best Live Action Short Film, one of the two Indian films to get shortlisted for Oscars this year, the other one being Smriti Mundhra’s documentary short film “I Am Ready, Warden,” at the 97th Academy Awards.

‘Anuja’ entered the nominations after receiving laurels at film festivals like the HollyStars Film Festival, New York Shorts International, and the Montclair Film Festival.

The award for Best Live Action Short Film went to “I’m Not A Robot.” In essence, ‘Anuja’ was recognized as a nomination; it did not secure a win.
