Microsoft's Latest Windows 10 Updates Bring Joy to Users
Microsoft has fixed a major Windows 11 bug caused by an Intel driver conflict, allowing Windows 10 users to upgrade. The tech giant lifted the upgrade block on affected PCs, aimed at boosting Windows 11 adoption.
Microsoft has finally prepped some basic Windows 10 users from upgrading to the latest Windows 10 version. The problem occurred due to an Intel driver conflict. According to Windows Latest reports, the tech giant has now lifted the upgrade block on affected PCs, allowing those users to jump to Windows 11.
The issue, which was first flagged in November 2021, has caused recurring Bluescreens of Death for Windows 10 PCs running Intel's 11th generation Core processor with Intel SST driver (10.29.0.5152 or 10.30.0.5152) (BSOD) errors a specific version.
To fix the problem, Microsoft introduced a compatibility clause that prevents those programs from running on Windows 11. More than a year later, Microsoft updated the bug's status to "resolved" on its health dashboard.
The only fix is that users manually update to the latest compatible Intel SST driver version from the manufacturer’s website before attempting to update to Windows 11 a cumbersome process for many people.
Microsoft will now provide the latest Intel drivers via Windows Update, after which affected users should know how to upgrade to Windows 11 within 48 hours. For those who can’t find the driver update, Microsoft recommends contacting the device’s manufacturer to get a compatible version.
The fix comes as Microsoft continues to struggle to convince users to adopt Windows 11. As of March 2024, Windows 10 is the dominant operating system with 69.2% market share, according to StatCounter, while Windows 11 trails far behind at just 26.71% adoption there is an increase of 8% year over year.
While it’s a good thing that Microsoft has finally fixed a long-known bug and allowed veteran Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11, this doesn’t change the configuration requirements of the Windows 11 operating system. This means nothing has changed for unsupported Windows 10 devices.
Conclusion: In a world of ever-evolving technology, Microsoft’s continued investment in Windows 10 reaffirms its position as a trusted partner in the digital journey of millions of users around the world the role of Windows 10 continues to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of its users.
