Microsoft delays ‘Recall’ AI Release citing security concerns

Microsoft won't be rolling out an AI-powered feature called "Recall" with its new computers next week, instead with a smaller batch of later reviews, the tech giant said Wednesday over privacy concerns risks in the field.

The Recall feature tracks web browsing to voice chat, creating a history stored on the computer that the user can still trace months later when they can recall something

Meanwhile, instead of being widely available to Copilot+ PC users on June 18, Recall will only be available to view its Windows Insider Program (WIP) in the coming weeks, Microsoft said in a blog post.

The decision is based on our commitment to providing a reliable, secure and robust experience for all customers and seeking additional information before offering this product to all Copilot+ PC users, the Redmond, Wash.-based company said.

Copilot+ PCs are personal computers with AI features that were unveiled in May.

WIP is a public software testing service that allows millions of "big Windows fans" to view upcoming features of the operating system.

The company said it plans to make a Recall preview available for all upcoming Copilot+ PCs shortly after feedback from the WIP community.

Privacy concerns arose shortly after the product was announced, and some social media users expressed fears that it could enable espionage, when billionaire engineer Elon Musk called him out The "Black Mirror episode", compared the Netflix series to advanced harmful display technology.

Conclusion: Microsoft’s decision to delay the release of the ‘recall’ Artificial Intelligence underscores the company’s commitment to addressing critical security vulnerabilities and ethical considerations.
