Meta launches its subscription model “Meta Verified” for Facebook and Instagram with a separate subscription.
Meta Platforms Inc is launching Meta Verified, a subscription service with a slew of extra perks and features, including account verification badges for those who pay. This latest social media company launch the paid subscription model for Facebook and Instagram in a bid to provide secure services and authentication for its users.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new product via his Instagram Channel, a service that was unveiled just a week ago. Both Facebook and Instagram will have the option, but they will require separate subscriptions. The model will primarily serve content creators. The Meta Verified subscription, on the other hand, is more expensive than Twitter’s Blue subscription. The new subscription will cost US$11.99 per month if purchased through the iOS app, which is primarily aimed at content creators. The subscription includes “proactive account protection, access to account support, and increased visibility and reach,” according to a Meta spokesperson in an email. The new model will be primarily introduced in Australia and New Zealand.
One of the most important aspects of Meta Verified is the verification badge. It gives content creators a sense of authenticity and trust, allowing them to distinguish between legitimate and fake accounts. The badge indicates that the account has been verified by Meta, implying that the content creator has provided accurate and trustworthy information about themselves and their account. The proactive account protection feature is intended to assist content creators in protecting their accounts from impersonation and hacking. This feature includes advanced security features like two-factor authentication, which requires the content creator to enter a code sent to their phone or email to access their account. This can help prevent unauthorized access to the account and protect the personal information of the content creator. To be eligible, accounts must meet minimum activity requirements, such as prior posting history, and be at least 18 years old, according to Meta. Applicants must then provide a government ID that matches the profile name and photo of the Facebook or Instagram account for which they are applying. Subscriptions will include proactive account impersonation monitoring. “We’re also committed to continuous monitoring and review of reported violations, as well as taking swift action against those who try to evade our systems,” Meta said. The new features arrives months after the social media giant laid off 13% of its workforce in November of last year.
