Is Maruti Suzuki Ready to Lead the EV Export Race to Europe and Japan?
After leading India's automobile market, Maruti Suzuki is going to make a giant leap into the world electric vehicle market. The company reportedly announced its ambitious plans to export EVs to Europe and Japan to mark an important step for the company in key international markets.
Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of the company said this is according to the first EV model, which boasts a high range of 500 km powered by a 60 kWh battery. This high-performance offering will mark only the beginning, though, as Maruti Suzuki plans to put multiple EVs into the market to serve diverse customer needs and market requirements.
Beyond Electric Vehicles: Exploring Sustainable Technologies
Beyond electric vehicles, the carmaker looks at other sustainable technologies to reduce carbon emissions. Other alternatives that could also be in the running include biofuels and hydrogen for future models. In a way, it would be good to take advantage of all the natural resources that abound in India and pursue the development of cleaner, 'greener' vehicles.
Investing in Sustainable Mobility
Beyond the product portfolio, Maruti Suzuki has pledged for sustainable mobility. It has committed investments in R&D for enhancement in the infrastructure of its EVs and the necessary support services-skilling through the building of a robust charging network and offering comprehensive after-sales for allaying customer apprehensions and gaining confidence in EV ownership.
Its ambitious export plans are underlined by a strong belief in the huge potential that India holds as a global manufacturing hub. Greater export by Maruti Suzuki will contribute to the economic growth of the country besides creating jobs for its youth.
Export Expansion and Economic Impact
The exports of Maruti Suzuki have grown from 8,22,734 units in FY21 to 10,08,508 units in FY24, in just a couple of years. This effort towards increasing its deep localization proportion and reduction of import dependence is aimed at competitive supply and sustainability.
With the ambitious plans at Maruti Suzuki for sustainable mobility, it is poised to be one of the major players in the transition to a cleaner and greener future.
