I recently visited a chain shopping store where I purchase dresses and accessories regularly. This time, to my surprise, they didn’t have the QR code board at the billing counter to make payments. For a second, I wondered if UPI payments were stopped in the shop. But instead, they asked me to scan the QR code in the card swipe machine. That is when I realized that the physical items are transformed into IoT devices, and the trend is now throwing physical QR code boards into the garbage.

 Internet of Things, or IoT devices, refers to the billions of physical devices around the world that are connected to the internet, all collecting and sharing data. The devices are already a part of our daily routine. Starting from morning alarms and virtual assistants reciting schedule to an automatic system that switches off the light and powers the AC, everything is a part of the Internet of Things. The IoT devices are the most impactful megatrend today for products and services companies. Information technology is revolutionizing products into intelligent, connected devices with the combination of sensors, microprocessors, software, and connectivity in myriad ways.
