Challenges

Leka SAS is a startup that created Leka, a playful robotic companion designed for exceptional children. Based on games & sensory stimulations (lights, sounds, movements, vibrations...), Leka motivates children's social interaction with parents & caregivers and as a result, learning. Leka does not replace therapy, it makes it easier, more efficient & constant by offering a dedicated tool to teach through play. Leka has already shown results with 70 children who played with it in special education schools & associations. As each child is unique Leka thought about a way to keep each child's action in a database in order to be able not only to learn about his - behaviors, habits, movements, and gestures but also to make Leka behave properly i.e. stimulate or stop stimulating the child. In other words, make Leka and each child learn from each other.

Initiatives

The solution based on IBM Bluemix and IBM IoT Foundation is hosted on the IBM Cloud. It gathers all movement data from the Leka robot ready, stop, carrousel, and shake as examples and shows them on a 3D interface dashboard.

Results

These solutions allow parents and therapists to get a better understanding of every child's unique abilities. Leka is a "robot" that children may play with and learn different actions with pleasure. Data coming from Leka is unique and is analyzed so that the robot can auto-teach with the help of Machine learning
