Kia Signs MOU with 42dot

Kia partners with 42dot, and Geotab to develop artificial intelligence that would improve the vehicle technology

Kia has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai Motor Group’s (HMG) software unit, 42dot, and Geotab, a Canadian technology company to create a partnership on globally connected vehicles.

Geotab and 42dot have joined forces for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) that utilizes advanced data insights. The goal of the partnership is to build in-vehicle applications using the MyGeotab platform and Kia’s PBV In-Vehicle Display App Store.

Sangdae Kim, head of the PBV business division at Kia, said, “Kia is partnering with Geotab and 42dot because this collaboration is essential to the strategic growth of our PBV business. We aim to offer the best in class fleet management solutions that optimize fleet operations and lay the foundation for PBV software capability. As we launch our first PBV next year, we will provide a total mobility solution including both connect-ready vehicles and FMS solutions to fleet customers for greater operational efficiency and safety.”

Kia’s Specialized Vehicle operations

This cooperative effort, centered on Kia's specialized vehicle operations, seeks to combine sophisticated data solutions with improved vehicle technology to create cutting-edge systems that promote safety, sustainability, and efficiency across fleets globally.

Kia’s offering on Cloud to Cloud Data Services

Kia mentioned that the collaboration was focused on creating software for an innovative fleet management system (FMS) that would serve as a "key distinguishing element" for its PBVs.

Kia announced it would team up with Geotab to offer cloud to cloud data services, further stating, “This will allow customers to access data from their vehicles' original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) without having to install an additional device, and it will be ready for the introduction of our PBV collection, specifically the PV5 and PV7 models. The European market will be the first to enjoy these services, with a co-branded Fleet Management System (FMS) platform being made available alongside the debut of our first PBV models in the coming year.
