Jennifer Aniston posted heartfelt pictures of Perry on the first anniversary of his passing, celebrating their enduring friendship formed during the decade-long series F.R.I.E.N.D.S
On the first anniversary of Matthew Perry passing away, Jennifer Aniston paid an emotional tribute to her late Friends co-star. Sharing four nostalgic photos on Instagram, Aniston commemorated their bond and posted images including a tender moment from Friends where Chandler Bing, Perry's character, kisses her character Rachel on the forehead. There were also a candid photo of Perry smiling, an image of both actors and a group huddle with the entire Friends cast.
In her caption, she just wrote, “1 year,” tagging the official Instagram handle of the Matthew Perry Foundation, an organisation that supports people struggling with addiction. As addiction was the fight that Perry openly battled and often spoke about his journey. Perry, widely beloved for his quick-witted humour and iconic character of Chandler, died shockingly last October at age 54, sending the whole of Hollywood and even fans into a tizzy.
The Friends cast joined in the statement at that time calling it a “profound loss.” This was also a close loss to Aniston since she thought of Perry almost as a brother. There was one time when she used the term “little brother.” She posted her deep feelings about losing him to fans by saying, “Saying goodbye to our Matty has been an insane wave of emotions… Being able to SIT in this grief lets you feel the joy and gratitude for having loved someone so deeply.”.
Friends, a cult-classic sitcom about a tight-knit circle of friends trying to make life work in New York, is where Aniston and Perry worked together. From the initial broadcast between 1994 and 2004 until today, Friends has continued being a cultural icon and positioned the cast into television lore. The sitcom also starred Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, who all honoured Perry in their own ways.
Aniston's tribute aligns with what Perry wished to be remembered for in his legacy. In the memoir published in 2022, Perry stated that he wanted to be remembered as much for Friends as he did for trying to assist others in getting better from addictions. Aniston also talked about his journey and shared, ‘I want people to know he was getting healthy… He was on a pursuit… he made us laugh really hard.”
She reminded followers through the post about how Perry had been in many ways an iconic performer with so much joy to have portrayed on-screen. With a treasure of memories, she fills up her tribute about the deep friendship that had helped mould their lives and brought joy to millions worldwide.
