ADB, AIIB Accelerate Electric Bus Production with $100M Funding Bestowed upon JBM Auto
The drive for sustainable movement is on its zenith today as a $100 million investment has been granted to JBM ECOLIFE Mobility, a leading electric bus manufacturer. This momentous funding comes from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
The investment comes as a boost to scale up the supply and operations of e-buses in India. This movement also aligns with the government's PM E-drive scheme, labelling India as one of the fastest-growing economies.
This funding comes as a boon, as not long ago, the Government of India launched its ambitious PM E-drive scheme, designed to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) for public transport. Alongside PM E-drive and its outstanding investment of ₹10,900 crore, the new $100 million initiative aims to provide subsidies for over 14,000 electric buses, positioning India as a leader in sustainable public transport.
On this historic investment, the vice chairman and managing director, JBM Group, Nishant Arya said, "Over the years, we have been relentlessly working towards introducing zero-emission technologies that underscore our vision of promoting sustainable development which contributes to the responsible growth of the organisation and all its stakeholders,"
With this investment in order, JBM ECOLIFE, which has already deployed over 1,500 electric buses across the country, plans to significantly expand its footprint with this new capital. As per the reports by Mint, JBM ECOLIFE's current order book boasts over 6,500 e-buses, marking a rapid growth trajectory. During the unveiling of the budget, both the ADB and AIIB emphasized the critical role of green mobility in improving public health, reducing air pollution, and enhancing the quality of life in urban areas.
According to ADB director general for Private Sector Operations Department, Suzanne Gaboury, "Supporting electric buses is an investment not only in sustainable transport, but also in public health through cleaner air and in climate action through lower emissions. By promoting e-mobility, ADB is helping communities reduce their carbon footprint, improve public transport, and build eco-friendly urban infrastructure.”
Bright Future of Electric Vehicles in India
This $100 million investment has become the steppingstone into the growing trend of sustainable transportation in India. And As the country continues to favor green development, innovative solutions like JBM ECOLIFE Mobility's e-buses will play a vital role in reducing emissions and promoting a healthier environment while supporting the economy.
