The internet is abuzz with AI-generated images of Indian wedding couples and has taken to a new level

AI-generated Arts are arts created with the assistance of artificial intelligence. A very popular form of AI that is used to help generate art is machine learning. The Internet is abuzz with AI-generated images because of a huge influx of AI art generators available to the public online.

In AI-generated art, artists and computer scientists teach algorithms about art or style by feeding machine learning algorithms thousands of images of a certain type of art or style. The trend of AI-generated images of couples has taken to a whole new level.  Recently, a new Twitter thread showcased the so-called stereotypical images of Indian wedding couples from different states, which the users did not approve of as they found it unrealistic and bizarre. This AI-generated art has facilitated cyberharassment and could be leveraged to abuse others or to say mean hurtful things.

Images generated by AI have been making waves recently and social media is brimming with photos of artsy illustrations shared by users. After the AI-generated stereotypical images of couples created by a Delhi-based artist (@baghardh) goes viral on Twitter, users might have reimagined what wedding couples from different Indian states would look like when thought of as 'stereotypically'. The post includes couples from states like Punjab, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh. The post has become an instant hit, however, the users did not approve of the image as it seemed unrealistic. The reasons for the popularity of AI-generated images lately have been a huge influx of AI artists online and also because of how ‘good’ the art is getting. The photos received mixed reactions from the internet. While some thought the pictures were beautiful, others questioned their authenticity.
