From Pepsi to Bühler, His Journey

David Wang's journey with engineering started with Pepsi. He was in the frontline, running production and managing a production line, then stepping up as manufacturing manager, head of plant and supply chain operations. After his stint at Pepsi, he went to USA studying MBA in Carnegie Mellon University. Upon his graduation, David started developing his career in the B2B industry, machinery industry, business development, supply chain, strategic sourcing, marketing, and general management. His role today in Bühler is the President of the Asia Pacific region. Asia is Bühler's largest market worldwide nowadays, where it accounts for more than 30 percent of its global business.

His Experience as A Foreign Student in the US

As an international student in the US, David says that it gave him a push to learn fast, adapt fast, and be quick on his feet. It taught him that adapting to any environment, studies or work is important to be successful. Being agile and facing challenges with a winning mindset helped him be a better leader. In his words, “it transformed me fundamentally in my view, vision and mindset.”

The Qualities A Thought Leader Should Possess

“The important thing is to drive leadership sustainability via being Resilient, being able to inspire People, bringing in Passion and Innovative Spirit in everyday practice. We are facing a fast-changing world, it is absolutely vital for a leader to build innovation culture in organization and business, this can be more than technology, product but also including business model or business approach. So, building an innovation culture is an essential leadership attribute too. Leadership resilience is very critical quality”, said Mr. David Wang. Every day the industry experiences new changes, some revolutionary and some marginal. Therefore, the ability to be quick to face challenges and solve problems is a win. “Along with resilience, another quality for a leader is Growth Mindset which is also critical,” Said David,  “a leader with growth mindset rather than fixed mindset could help foster innovation and build resilience in organization or business,  make the company stay in vanguard”.

“Entrepreneurship means constantly driving change, renewal, invent and reinvent”, says David. A great entrepreneur should always know when to be agile, drive the business towards success, and redirect negative ambiguity. He also mentioned that innovation is everything in today's fast-paced world, as new technologies are emerging in every industry.  So, an entrepreneur must find the right direction for the business and the best processes for operational excellence every day.
