Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Court Sentences Tutor Subhash Kumar to 18 Years for 2013 Sexual Assault Case

A special fast-track court in Thiruvananthapuram delivered a very serious judgment this Wednesday. The case involved a 57-year-old man accused of sexual assault, named Subhash Kumar. He was a private tuition teacher, living in the Medical College area. He was found guilty of repeatedly assaulting a minor girl starting way back in 2013. At that time, the victim was just a child in class 5. 

Judge Anju Meera Birla sentenced him to various terms totaling 18 years of rigorous imprisonment. However, the sentences will run concurrently. This means he will serve five years in prison in reality. This was the longest single term given. It seems short. But that is the law.

Actually, the way this crime was revealed is very shocking. The victim kept this secret for eleven long years. The tutor threatened her. In 2024, the girl was staying in a hostel while studying for her MBBS degree. Suddenly, she saw a person who looked exactly like her attacker.

This moment triggered a massive mental breakdown. She finally told her doctor everything during a medical checkup. The doctor immediately told the police. This led to the arrest of Subhash Kumar.
