India is on its way to become a leading force in the semiconductor industry in Asia.

India is set to establish 150 new fabrication units to achieve a US$1 trillion target by 2030, according to industry leaders.

Establishment of New Fabrication Units

Ajit Manocha, President and CEO of SEMI announced the establishment of new fabrication units at the 'Semicon India 2024' summit held at Greater Noida.

Ajit Manocha said that the nation is on its way to becoming a leading force in the semiconductor industry in Asia. He added that the conditions are perfect to foster an environment that supports expansion, benefiting both India and the global market.

Workforce Development Programme

SEMI has introduced its workforce development programme in India with a workshop conducted in partnership with ESSCI at IIT Delhi, to boost the country’s semiconductor growth.

"Upskilling India's raw talent to meet this demand is crucial, and global players have a vital role in this effort," Manocha said.

Programme for Semiconductor Design

The programme focuses on developing curricula tailored for semiconductor design roles and building skill development initiatives in collaboration with educational initiatives. 

"With a very strong talent pipeline and strong resolve of the government to support the development of the semiconductor industry in India, I am sure we will be successful in becoming a trusted partner in the global value chain of semiconductors in the coming years," said Akash Tripathi, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
