Months after coronavirus caused COVID-19 managed to create a significant share of pandemic crisis and mass paranoia, few things turned out to be good too. Sure artificial intelligence, big data analysis, automation have received enormous attention. However, the pandemic forced lockdown that led to individuals to start work from home, managing and addressing their concerns, put a giant question mark on Human resources leaders' minds. As we have come to terms with de facto that our work life is no longer the same and the urge for things goes back to normalcy, we as employees are beginning to connect in ways that were overlooked before.
Rules about communicating in the workspace and with fellow employees have changed. Regardless of the department, type of industry, people have managed to bond over commonalities. Leaders are finally focusing on employee development for higher returns. There may be an urgency to cultivate future leaders of tomorrow as soon as the pandemic simmers down. And most of these potential leaders will follow the footsteps of the current ones. Hence the HR team is going beyond their traditional functions.
They are working towards developing strong behavioral skills of their juniors. Health and safety have become a new priority. The conversation is opening up, and leadership is turning more human. And this honest, authenticity, strategic, supportive, flexibility values are helping workers keep safe more mentally and emotionally. Heads of the team and organization are slowly inclining to identify the unique trait of their employees and trying to elevate the connections by figuring out one person one plan instead of one plan fits all ideas. This is to ensure that despite working from home, employees can still give their best to the company.
Goals are now less rigid. Interactions are two way, and sometimes personal or sometimes company-wide, depending upon the circumstances and demands. With information transfer, update relay, and copies strategies sharing, both leaders and employees are finding more ways to reach out to each other. Further various channels of communications are used to make sure the message is well received. As the necessity to make quick decisions that cater to the urgency of the task and responsibilities come into the highlight, leaders are now more agile without compromising empathy and clarity. Meanwhile, employees are encouraged to be patient, think critically, accountable, and inspiring. As the fear of uncertainty envelopes their minds, the HR teams are striving to make them aware of the direction, purpose.
The newfound realization and connections are likely to be made permanent. As government bodies, authorities and unions are planning to revive the business and reopen offices; employees will demand similar flexibility and considerations of personal situations. Company leaders will have to look into the options of remote working policies, course correction besides reviewing the existing employee policies. All of which wasn't hitherto possible. Although it may sound as unwanted changes, it is essential to apply such fixes for better employee engagement, productivity, returns, and foster motivation and inspiration beyond the crisis times.
