HMD Global Shakes Up Smartphone Industry with Teaser for Upcoming Self-Branded Phone Launch

HMD Global, a smartphone manufacturer that launches phones under the Nokia brand, may be considering launching new phones under its own brand name. According to a recent report from 91mobiles, the new phone will have dual cameras and could be a mid-range device.

So far, the Finnish company has released smartphones under the Nokia logo, but the lineup of handsets with a new HMD logo on the back suggests that this could change soon and we now have a fair idea of what the handset could look like time the first.

HMD branded phones in India

  • Sources tell us that the HMD Global brand phones will be available in April 2024.
  • The phones will have affordable pricing and will be mainly focused on the online market ie. maybe Amazon, Flipkart, and other platforms.
  • However, HMD Global will mainly focus on selling Nokia phones through online marketplaces.
  • HMD Global will sell its devices and Nokia devices until 2026.

91Mobiles released images of HMD’s alleged N159V smartphone, obtained from unnamed industry sources. The handset is shown in black with two rear camera modules with LED flash. The HMD logo appears in the center of the back panel of the phone and no other branding is seen anywhere on the handset.

While we still don’t know what HMD plans to call the first handset with model number N159V, the leaked image suggests that it will come as a mid-range phone. It looks like the phone will be fitted with a plastic back panel and the power and volume buttons are seen to be on the right side of the handset.

HMD’s first smartphone has been shown to have a flat display in the leaked renders. The render of the smartphone also shows a front-facing camera for selfies and video chats with a center-aligned hole-five cutout at the top of the screen The render does not show 3.5mm at the top or bottom of the phone.

This is not the first time we have heard of the company’s plans to launch HMD-branded devices. Last September, HMD Global CEO Jean-Francois Baril announced that the Finnish company would soon expand its product line with phones released under the HMD brand. The company has been selling Nokia-branded phones globally since 2016.
