Health-esteem-how-companies-can-help-their-workers-to-effectively-manage-their-wellbeing

There is no excuse in the 21st century for employers to not acknowledge the importance of wellbeing in the workplace. Employee wellbeing has been shown to be linked to employee productivity and motivation, meaning that if employees are happier, you can expect to see higher levels of productivity as well. This is crucial for any business and their success.

So how can companies help employees manage their wellbeing?  Here are a few ideas.

Encourage breaks

Employers should encourage employees to take regular breaks. This can range from 2 to 5 minutes of simply getting up and walking around the office, going to get a cup of coffee, or grabbing a drink of water. Since most of the working day is typically spent sitting down on office chairs, it’s a good idea to let your employees stretch their legs and have a mini break before continuing with work. With these breaks, concentration from employees is improved which can lead to more productive working.

Permit more flexibility

A poor work life balance can lead to deteriorating wellbeing and poor employee performance. With the popularity of hybrid working, it may be time for employers to start considering implementing hybrid working arrangements in their business, or at least allow flexibility in terms of hours and days employees can work. For instance, allowing employees to start later may prove to reduce stress and let them accommodate other important tasks in their lives they might need to do.

Protect your employees

If employees do end up taking time off for their wellbeing, it would be worth investing in group income protection insurance to assist them and their families financially whilst they’re not working. These types of policies also typically have services that the employees can access to help them get back on their feet. Having one in place can attract new prospects, as well as retain current employees, as it shows that the employer cares about their wellbeing and is willing to protect them.

Promote fitness

Wellbeing can be improved through exercise, so it is a good idea for employers to encourage and promote fitness whenever possible. Exercise can help decrease levels of stress and anxiety, positively impacting employees’ moods and morale! If you are an employer, you may want to consider a ‘bike to work’ scheme that encourages employees to cycle to work instead of driving or taking public transport. Or, perhaps you could host a weekly walk or monthly hike, and even offer discounts on gym memberships.

Plan regular wellbeing activities

A way to manage employee wellbeing effectively is for employers to plan consistent wellbeing activities that can enhance employee productivity and motivation. Activities that can improve mental health include social events that can help foster a positive and comfortable work environment, such as company dinners or lunches.

In addition to this, team building activities like paintballing, bowling, or laser tag are fun ways to improve wellbeing. Regular wellbeing talks or discussions could also be implemented so that employees are able to empathise and have a better understanding of mental health and its significance in the workplace.

And there you have it - just a few ways that employers can assist employees in managing their wellbeing.
