Google Play Introduces Payment Request Feature to Simplify In-App Purchases
Google is reportedly adding a new payment method for in-app purchases through the Play Store, allowing users to “ask someone else to pay.” According to a report from Android Authority, the rollout has started in India.
The payment request feature was announced at Google I/O earlier this month as part of new changes coming to the Android platform. The new feature will create a button that, when clicked, will pop up a link that the user can send to anyone via text message, third-party messaging app, and more.
The user who sends the payment request is informed that the person making the payment needs to know the email address and be able to locate the product. The customer will have 24 hours to complete the payment before the request is completed.
The payment request will appear as a link on the customer’s end, accompanied by a brief description of the product and the application for which the payment request is issued.
This feature will work with all apps that use Google Play’s billing service for in-app purchases. Developers won’t need to add any additional lines of code to add this button to their apps. The button will automatically appear when the Play Billing Library is upgraded to version six or higher.
While Google has not officially announced its plans for the product, it has already started rolling out a few apps for selected users in India. The “Ask Someone Else to Pay” button may become more prominent in the coming days.
Conclusion: By offering a simple and secure payment system, Google Play is setting new standards for in-app purchases, benefiting both users and developers. With this feature in place, the app is expected to become an essential tool in increasing revenue and user satisfaction. The new payment request feature in Google Play ensures secure transactions for in-app purchases, enhancing user confidence and convenience.
