Google I/O 2022Here is everything you need to know from Google’s big tech event Google I/O 2022.

At its Google I/O 2022 conference, held on May 11-12, 2022, Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL, GOOG) introduced a slew of new products and services. The new Pixel 6A smartphone, Pixel earbuds, Android 13 operating system, and an improved Google Wallet was among the Google I/O 2022 most anticipated announcements. Google expects to release the Pixel 7 smartphone and the Google Watch in 2022.

Google's Most Important Announcements

The highlights of the announcements made on the first day of the Google I/O 2022 conference, May 11, 2022, are listed below.

Pixel Smartphones

At Google I/O 2022 Pixel 6A is a $449 cheaper version of the Pixel 6 smartphone that includes most Pixel 6 capabilities, such as a Tensor chip. In a recyclable aluminum chassis, it boasts a 6.1-inch display and dual 12-megapixel (MP) back cameras (vs 50 MP on the basic Pixel 6). Preorders for $449 will begin on July 21. The Pixel 6A will be available in three colors and will go on sale on July 28. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones will be released in the fall of 2022. They will have two and three cameras, respectively, just like the present Pixels.

Watch Pixels

The Pixel Watch will be available in the fall of 2022, alongside the Pixel 7 smartphone. Fitbit will be "fully integrated," allowing users to track their health data. Google Maps, Google Wallet, and Google Home will all be supported on the Pixel Watch. The Android 13 Beta operating system is currently available. That is, Google's Android operating system is being provided as a beta (test) version. A makeover for larger devices, like tablets and foldable, is among the Android enhancements. Twenty of Google's apps will be updated for large screens.

Earbuds with Pixels

In Google I/O 2022 The Pixel Buds Pro is the first Google-designed headphones with active noise cancellation (ANC). They allow a person's voice to be picked up clearly while tuning out ambient noise such as wind, according to Google. The cost will begin at $199. Preorders begin on July 21 and the earphones will be available for purchase on July 28.

Privacy and Security

Although no details regarding this new feature were provided during the presentation, personal information can be removed in more ways from Google search (but not from the internet). Users will be able to control the types of ads they like and dislike through My Ad Center, which will come later in 2022. Protected Computing will obfuscate data in order to keep users anonymous. Actual card details will be hidden from retailers with Virtual Credit Cards, lowering the risk of fraud and identity theft.

In the future without passwords, everyone will have two-step verification enabled by default. Users will not have to memorize hundreds of passwords with this authentication method because it will employ numerous systems. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based phishing protection is being added to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Phishing scams are responsible for 90% of cyberattacks, according to Google.

Redesigned Google Wallet More than only credit cards can be stored in Google Wallet. Student IDs, park passes, Disney World cards, immunization cards, and government-issued IDs can now be stored in it. It will begin with driver's licenses, allowing users to transfer IDs via NFC.

Applications

The Monk Skin Tone Scale will be used in Better Skin Tone Representation to better represent skin tone in photos and searches. One application is in the search for cosmetics. Google is making its skin tone guide open source, making it available to all organizations and researchers. Google Translate now supports 24 additional languages. Google Maps is being updated to include additional buildings, 3D city views, and suggestions for the most fuel-efficient driving routes.

Project Starline, which was revealed at Google I/O 2021, would improve the audio and visual quality of Google Meet. Multisearch enables users to take a photo, search with that photo, then fine-tune that search with text. The new "near me" feature analyses a snapshot and determines whether or not that item is available nearby. Scene exploration is a sophisticated new search tool that analyses a photograph and provides information about the objects contained within.

Future Hardware is in the Works

The capacity of Augmented Reality (AR) Glasses to automatically translate languages in real-time was shown during the conference. That is, the wearer can read a translation of what another person is saying projected on a lens. There is no estimated launch date for this product.

In 2023, Google plans to release an Android tablet with its Tensor chip.
