Aamir Khan’s Mahabharat to Cast by Character Fit, Not Stardom – Revealed on Raj Shamani Podcast – Calls Mahabharat His Most Emotional & Layered Project Yet
Aamir Khan has hinted that his upcoming Mahabharat adaptation could be the last film of his career. In a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, the actor-filmmaker revealed that the emotional and narrative depth of the epic may leave him with nothing more to pursue in cinema.
Dream Project in Making for Over a Decade
"It is layered, it is emotional, it has scale—everything you find in the world, you will find in Mahabharat." Said Khan. "Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this."
A Multi-Part Epic With a Collaborative Vision
Khan has often referred to the Mahabharat as his dream project. Unlike a standard single-release film, it is going to be a multi-part series requiring years of writing and production.
He also mentioned that multiple directors might join the project due to its massive scope. While Khan will star in the adaptation, he has not confirmed whether he will appear on screen. He emphasized that casting will be based on character fit, not stardom.
The Possible Farewell to Cinema
Despite expressing a desire to work as long as possible, the 60-year-old actor noted that completing Mahabharat may mark the end of his cinematic journey. “I hope that I die with my shoes on, but since you’re asking, this is the one thing I can think of,” he said. “Perhaps after this, I will feel that I don’t need to do anything else.”
Upcoming Projects Before the Epic Unfolds
While Khan is in his warrior mode to open Sitaare Zameen Par on June 20, 2025, he has also set out to produce Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol, and is set to appear in Coolie with Rajinikanth.
Mahabharat Could Define Aamir Khan’s Legacy
Mahabharat, derived from the ancient Sanskrit Indian epic of sage Ved Vyas, may prove to be the defining epic for one of the greatest storytellers in Bollywood.
An Epic That Speaks Across Generations
If with passion and dedication complementing the glamour of Aamir Khan, Mahabharat should stand not only as a cult in Indian cinema but also worldwide storytelling.
With its vast canvas of characters, moral dilemmas, and timeless wisdom, this project has the power to inspire generations and leave a lasting imprint on audiences worldwide.
