Elon Musk Makes Bold Move: Open-Sourcing Grok Chatbot Revolutionizes AI Landscape
Tech billionaire Elon Musk recently announced plans for his artificial intelligence (AI) company xAI and will unveil the "Grok" chatbot designed to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT. Musk said Grok will be open and available to the public later this week, according to a report by news agency Reuters.
In Lex Friedman’s podcast episode, Musk praised the idea of open-source AI, the report added. The billionaire’s startup had presented the AI model to a select group of people in November last year.
"This week, @xAI will open-source Grok," Musk said in a post on social media company X.
This comes as Musk recently said his social media venture X, formerly known as Twitter, is considering removing the likes and re-post counts displayed on posts on the platform. Additionally, Musk said X is close to approving a money transfer license in New York and is expected to receive it in the next few months, according to sources.
Prominent X user, DogeDesigner, shared reports that X is considering removing likes and repost counts from the feed, and clarified that these metrics are still visible when creating posts X boss Musk replied to the post by writing: “definitely happening” so far.
Recall that, in early December, Musk AI platform xAI unveiled the expansion of its generative AI chatbot Grok AI to include India, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and 46 other countries. Notably, Musk's social media company X, formerly known as Twitter, also gave users access to the Grok AI chatbot that will be phased in for Premium+ customers in the US about the new information.
The news of the global rollout was first announced on December 14. Later, interested subscribers of X Premium+ were made available for Rs 2,600 per month, as they are restricted only those enrolled in X Premium+ can access Grok.
