Shah Rukh Khan receives death threat, lawyer’s 1994 complaint over Anjaam dialogue resurfaces
In an ongoing investigation regarding a recent threat call to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, new developments have emerged that link the old complaint against the actor. Mumbai Police are investigating the death threat given to Khan which carried a demand for Rs 50 lakh. The call is alleged to have been made through a phone which has been said to have been stolen from a lawyer who now reveals that he had previously raised objections to a dialogue of one of Khan's films.
According to PTI, a lawyer from Chhattisgarh who, the police approached for questioning after he had recently filed a complaint with the concerned station that his phone had been stolen. The police found that this lawyer had protested against a particular dialogue in Khan's 1994 film Anjaam, claiming it was an offensive reference to deer hunting as he belongs to the Bishnoi community, which strictly emphasizes deer protection.
“If a Muslim says something like this about deer, it is condemnable”, the lawyer said. He claimed that his religious beliefs made the remark particularly offensive. In addition, he expressed suspicions about the recent call, suggesting it might be part of a conspiracy against him.
The Mumbai Police confirmed that the threatening call came in at the Bandra police station. A senior officer reported that the caller had demanded Rs 50 lakh from Khan and threatened to kill them. The Bandra police registered the case for the unknown caller under Sections 308 (4) and 351 (3) (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, over the extortion and criminal intimidation involving a death threat.
Later, the investigation revealed that the call was from a cellular phone registered under Faizan's name. The lawyer was found to have claimed, during his interrogation, that he had lost the cell phone last week and also lodged a complaint at the Khamardih police station in Chhattisgarh.
The lawyer's association with the case, coupled with his earlier complaint against Anjaam, has caused investigators to be intrigued enough to start analyzing whether this was an intentional use of a stolen phone or part of a larger plot. The police still have not found any direct connection between the old complaint and the recent threat call.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Khan is said to be a part of Sujoy Ghosh's new film titled King, alongside Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Abhay Verma. As reported on Pinkvilla, the shoot is expected to be initiated in January 2025.
