Cameron Diaz returns to Hollywood: How family, self-care, and Jamie Foxx convinced her to end her 10-year acting hiatus
After spending a decade out of the spotlight, Cameron Diaz is officially back in Hollywood. She was one of Hollywood's most identifiable faces when she took a break from the spotlight in 2014. Diaz, who last appeared in Annie, took a 10-year hiatus owing to becoming a mother and focusing on family.
Now, Cameron Diaz is all set to make her come back to the silver screen in Seth Gordon’s directorial- ‘Back in Action’. The Netflix Original film starring Cameron Diaz features Jamie Foxx alongside her and will come out in January 2025.
Speaking at Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit, Diaz talked about her decision to quit acting in 2014-saying that she needed to take control of her personal life.
Diaz said, “It was something I just had to do. It felt like the right thing for me to do to reclaim my own life, and I just really didn't care about anything else.” She said no one at any level of success, nor external pressure, would have made her compromise and not put herself first during that time.
Since leaving the acting arena, Diaz has mostly stayed close to her family. She married one of the rock band Good Charlotte musicians, Benji Madden. With Benji Madden, she also has two children: daughter Raddix Madden and son Cardinal Madden.
She also experimented with some business ventures. In 2020, she became one of the co-founders of a clean wine brand called Avaline along with Katherine Power as her business partner.
Now, Diaz is thrilled to be back on the big screen. According to her, what made her see this challenge was when her husband told her it was time for them to support her and let Mommy ascend and do her thing. She shared this during the summit.
Diaz’s return also comes with an irresistible offer from Jamie Foxx, with whom she has worked previously on Annie and Any Given Sunday. “He said, ‘Come with me,’ and I said, ‘OK let’s do it.’ It’s our third film together, so it’s great,” Diaz added.
In addition to Back in Action, Diaz is reportedly involved in other projects, including Shrek 5 and a possible collaboration with Keanu Reeves in the dark comedy Outcome. Fans are eagerly awaiting her return, as she steps back into Hollywood, ready to make her mark once again.
