It is been almost a year since Bill Gates stepped down from his position in the Microsoft Board and the board of Berkshire Hathaway. Back then, Gates said to the media that he decided to resign from both the public boards to dedicate more time to philanthropic priorities including global health and development, education, and much-increasing engagement in tackling climate change. But recent news unraveling the real reason behind Bill Gates's resignation has shocked the world. It is reported that the Co-founder of Microsoft left the board following the investigation on his intimate relationship with a company employee. Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975 and served as its CEO until 2000.

This comes days after Bill Gates and his wife Melinda French Gates announced their divorce. According to reports, their marriage was ‘irretrievably broken’ owing to Bill Gates's former ties with Jeffrey Epstein. It was expected to be the most expensive divorce of all time. A few days later, Gates ran into trouble yet again. News reports suggest that Bill Gates ‘pursued’ several women in his office long after he wed his now-estranged wife Melinda in 1994. The revelation of extra-marital affairs came at a time when people were already buzzing about their divorce. During the probe that started in 2019, some of the board members decided that it is not fair for Gates to carry on in his director position. However, Bill Gates, resigned even before the board came up with a conclusion. Even though analysts say that Gates owns around 1.36% of Microsoft’s shares and is one of the biggest stakeholders, his last connection with the company was cut off following the breakout of affairs news. Microsoft without Bill Gates

To be frank, Microsoft managed pretty well without Bill Gates in the past. He was the CEO of the company till 2000 and a member of the board till 2020. Gates’ withdrawal from Microsoft did not happen overnight. It was a slow process. When Bill Gates left his CEO position in 2000, the company was already prepared to function without his guidance in every step. Windows 7 was the first OS developed without Bill Gates’ surveillance. Back then, the company said that post Bill Gates’s resignation, many people were stepping up and grew in many ways. As the statements mentioned, Windows 7 was a big success for Microsoft. Even though Windows Vista was developed during Gates’ tenure received poor reviews from businesses and consumers, the company managed to get positive views for the updated version. 

Fortunately or unfortunately, Microsoft is clingy to Bill Gates. Even after BillGates resigned from the top managing position, the successors got advice from him and followed in his footsteps. Besides, Bill Gates was also very active about social causes. Without him, there wouldn’t be a big technological breakthrough in healthcare, the automation industry would operate differently, the development of smartphones and apps might have to take longer, etc. Although Microsoft breakup with Bill Gates has its sloppy side, it won’t make a big impact on the way they function.
