BMW Introduces R 1300 R Superhooligan, Showcasing Advanced Engineering and Aggressive Styling
BMW has unveiled the R 1300 R Superhooligan, a new high-performance roadster that blends aggressive styling, powerful engineering and advanced riding technologies. The motorcycle reflects BMW’s continued focus on delivering track-inspired performance and cutting-edge design in its premium bike lineup.
BMW R 1300 R Superhooligan Launched
BMW Motorrad has unveiled the R 1300 R Superhooligan at the 84th Daytona 200 weekend, marking 50 years since Steve McLaughlin's victory in the first AMA Superbike race at Daytona on March 6, 1976.
The custom build from BMW Motorrad's Custom Speed Shop honours both McLaughlin's Daytona win and Reg Pridmore's inaugural AMA Superbike Championship title.
According to BMW press release: “The high riding dynamics requirements of the Custom Roadster – capable of reaching speeds of up to 275 km/h and delivering a superbike-level riding experience - are achieved through the lightweight, handling-enhancing BMW M 1000 RR carbon front wheel and a wide range of lightweight yet high-strength carbon-fiber components from both the BMW Motorrad program and Ilmberger Carbon Parts. Fully adjustable hand levers from Advik, a lightweight and sonorous titanium exhaust system with carbon end silencer from Akrapovič, and milled BMW Motorrad footrests complete the supersport-focused Custom Roadster project.”
BMW R 1300 R Superhooligan Features
The bike was created by a small team at BMW Motorrad's Custom Speed Shop. It is based on the standard R 1300 R, which is powered by a 1,300cc boxer-twin. BMW also revealed that the Superhooligan is capable of reaching speeds up to 275kph.
The Superhooligan features front fender and tank side panels finished in the classic BMW R 90 S colour scheme. It also gets blue accents on the aluminium rear frame and fork tubes that match the brake calipers borrowed from the BMW M 1000 RR. Other notable features include a carbon front wheel from the M 1000 RR, along with other carbon fiber bits for the bodywork.
Suspension componentry includes a fully adjustable Wilbers USD fork. The package is completed with fully adjustable Advik hand levers, an Akrapovič titanium exhaust system with a carbon end can, and milled BMW Motorrad footrests.
Closing Note
BMW Motorrad brand ambassador Nate Kern will race the R 1300 R Superhooligan in the Mission Foods Super Hooligan series during the MotoAmerica Daytona 200 weekend from March 5 to 7, 2026. The bike will be showcased in the paddock alongside the original Butler & Smith BMW R 90 S race machines from 1976. It was specially prepared by BMW Group Classic from the BMW Museum's in-house racing workshop.
