AI Summit 2026 Signals Deep Shift in Information Technology

Tech billionaire Vinod Khosla predicted that IT and BPO services could "almost completely disappear" within five years due to rapid advances in artificial intelligence. The Sun Microsystems co-founder declared at the most recent AI Summit that tools would achieve better performance than human workers across all fields of expert-based work.

From Sun Microsystems to Artificial Intelligence

Khosla, who co-founded Sun Microsystems, reflected on his five-decade journey in Silicon Valley. He came to the United States in the 1970s because of Intel's initial achievements and started several businesses throughout his career. His support now goes to entrepreneurs who develop revolutionary technologies, and Artificial Intelligence has become his primary focus.

AI to Replace Expertise-Based Professions

According to Khosla, AI Summit highlights a turning point where AI systems could soon handle accounting, legal advisory, medical diagnosis, architecture, and even chip design. “AI workers will be able to do accounting better than accountants,” he said, adding that robotics will soon follow, automating physical labor within five years. This shift could sharply reduce operational costs worldwide.

He also warned that within 15 years, most expertise-based roles may shrink dramatically. However, he emphasized that AI could democratize healthcare, education, and legal access, in particular by making them nearly free or significantly cheaper, especially in developing economies like India.

India’s AI Opportunity and Sovereign Models

Khosla requested India to establish its own AI capabilities because he recognized the US and China's control of AI development. He pointed to companies like Sarvam that are developing Indian language models. India, he argued, should pivot from traditional IT and BPO Services toward exporting AI-based products and solutions to the world.

Khosla explained that Artificial Intelligence creates both dangerous situations and beneficial business opportunities for organizations. He explained that the United States economy has grown throughout history because innovation processes receive support from H1B visa workers. He warned that immigration restrictions would harm the development of lasting innovation systems.

What This Means for the Global Economy

The AI Summit 2026 discussion signals a structural shift rather than a temporary disruption. AI technology replaces cognitive work to a greater extent than previous technological advancements, which included the internet and smartphones. If IT and BPO Services decline as predicted, India’s workforce strategy will need urgent recalibration.

Artificial intelligence will create more economic deflation and workforce changes by 2035 than all previous digital revolutions. The current task requires organizations to handle employee movement between jobs while they seek to take advantage of AI-based export possibilities. The upcoming ten years will decide if India becomes an AI powerhouse or continues to rely on international platforms.
