Jana Nayagan Delay Deepens as CBFC, High Court Review Vijay’s Politically Sensitive Film
Jana Nayagan, starring Vijay, was scheduled for a January 9 release and was widely seen as the actor’s final film before entering Tamil Nadu politics with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. However, the makers announced a delay citing “unavoidable circumstances beyond control.” The uncertainty deepened after a Madras High Court hearing involving KVN Productions and the CBFC failed to clarify a release timeline.
SA Chandrasekhar Breaks His Silence
Amid the legal uncertainty, Vijay’s father, SA Chandrasekhar, addressed the media with strong remarks. “The people know what happened in Karur. Vijay is not afraid of anything. His chances of success are bright,” he said. Chandrasekhar added that obstacles are common for newcomers in politics, stating that Vijay is prepared to face any number of challenges ahead.
Advice on Vijay’s Political Path
Chandrasekhar also revealed that several well-wishers have advised Vijay to avoid aligning with established political parties. According to him, such alliances could weaken Vijay’s independent political identity.
Vijay's upcoming electoral debut makes Jana Nayagan his first film to serve as a political milestone through which he will transition from acting to political life.
Legal Battle With the CBFC Explained
The producers approached the Madras High Court on January 5 after the CBFC indicated the film would be sent to a revising committee, a process that can take up to 20 days. Although a single judge initially directed certification, the CBFC challenged the order. The Supreme Court later asked the producers to seek relief again from the High Court, prolonging the delay.
A Film Caught Between Cinema and Politics
The delay of Jana Nayagan demonstrates how the Tamil Nadu movie industry, legal system, and political system increasingly share common ground. The current legal examination of the movie has intensified because its release date and ability to influence people match those of the previous politically sensitive films.
The upcoming political career of Vijay makes the film important because its success at the theaters will shape public opinion before the upcoming elections.
