Responding to a petition on the matter, the apex court criticized the Karnataka High Court’s earlier suggestion for an apology. The bench made it clear: seeking apologies under public pressure has no place in a lawful democracy. It emphasized that the judiciary must not act on emotional responses or take sides in cultural disputes.
Film Certification and Protection of Release Rights
The court underlined that a film certified by the Central Board of Film Certification cannot be blocked due to outrage or threats. It directed the Karnataka government to ensure law and order and provide full protection for the film’s release.
