Exciting news for the fans of the Sunny Deol-starrer Border movie, released in 1997. The iconic roles played by Akshaye Khanna (Dharamvir Singh Bhakhri) and Suniel Shetty (Bhairon Singh Rathore) are returning in Border 2, set to release on 23 January 2026. Sources mention that these actors have already shot their scenes and will make cameo appearances with the help of de-aging effects.

Reprising Iconic Roles Through Time-Defying Cameos

The new war movie features many famous stars, including Akshaye Khanna and Suniel Shetty, in special roles. Sudesh Berry is also expected to join the cast, who played the inspiring role of Naib Subedar Mathura Das.

While the characters died heroically in the original story, they will reappear in the upcoming sequel. The production team has reportedly used digital effects to make the actors look much younger than their age. The choice is made to highlight that a soldier's legacy never dies, their spirit remains young and inspires every new generation.

After watching the Border 2 trailer, Arjun Rampal praised, saying, “Love the new energy these handsome and solid youngsters Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty are bringing; with the backing of one and only Sunny Deol, I guess India is in good hands. Look forward to seeing them in action under the direction of Anurag Singh.”

Bridging the Gap Between the 1997 Classic and the New Sequel

The story returns to the 1971 war period. The script includes a very special scene as the new characters will meet the original heroes at an event. This meeting happens before the actual battle starts.

A source stated, “Since Border 2 is also set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, the characters from the original film will serve as their peers.” They further added, “Anurag and producer-writer Nidhi Dutta felt bringing the heroic characters from the 1997 war drama would make it a memorable experience. So, they incorporated this segment.”
