The partnership of Aramco and Qualcomm to Drive Innovation in Energy and Technology

Oil and natural gas company Aramco has partnered with Qualcomm Technologies to advance the use of communications, artificial intelligence, and advanced computing technologies in Saudi Arabia's industrial sector.

This collaboration aims to accelerate the development of industrial 4G/5G and non-terrestrial network (NTN) ecosystems, including 450MHz cellular technologies. Hardware, software, and services will accelerate the adoption of IoT solutions in both industrial and corporate end-to-end use cases. It will also focus on design.

Nakul Duggal, Group GM, Automotive, Technology, Embedded IoT, and Cloud Computing at Qualcomm Technologies, said, “Through our collaboration with Aramco, we aim to develop advanced IoT solutions front-to-end if Empire in Saudi Arabia and its cut-edge and sustainable digital transformation open the way to suggest that it can.

With our advanced technological expertise, we are uniquely positioned. We look forward to becoming a vital partner of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as they accelerate their technological and digital transformation.”

Nabil A. Al-Nuem, SVP of Digital Information Technology at Aramco, emphasized the importance of the partnership. He said that Aramco is eager to further its collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to deliver digital transformation and has come globally with two projects that he hopes will spark industrial IoT.

It will shape benchmarks in applications and AI, improve operational efficiencies, and support long-term growth across industries around the world. Al-Nuaim also highlighted Aramco’s commitment to developing new and innovative solutions through initiatives such as the Saudi Accelerated Innovation Laboratory (SAIL), which, “Through initiatives like SAIL, we are committed to developing innovative, cutting-edge solutions that establish new standards for industrial innovation worldwide, thereby driving technological advancement.”

As noted earlier, Aramco is working aggressively this year and accelerating its ambitions for digital transformation. In January, Aramco Digital and Intel announced plans to build Saudi Arabia’s first Open RAN (O-RAN) development center.

This collaboration aims to accelerate the development and deployment of O-RAN technology, demonstrating Saudi Arabia’s commitment to building a robust network infrastructure to promote digital transformation across multiple verticals.

Under the agreement, Aramco Digital will provide in-depth knowledge of the country’s development needs and objectives. There will also be opportunities to use O-RAN technology to gain insight into the state of the nation’s economy. On the other hand, Intel will contribute its expertise in O-RAN technology. Work on the new O-RAN Development Center is scheduled to begin this year.

Then, in April, Aramco and chipmaker GCT Semiconductor signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the country’s 4G and 5G ecosystems by developing mission-critical civil defense systems.

GCT Semiconductor CEO John Schlaefer revealed that the partnership focuses on “future-focused AI-powered modem features.” Nelson C. McCarthy, who acquired the company in March, announced this.

This is in line with Chan’s recent appointment to the board, matching his “deep understanding” of 5G and AI technologies and demonstrating GCT Semiconductor’s commitment to unleash its effective AI capabilities from the source.

Conclusion: By combining Aramco’s energy expertise with Qualcomm’s technical prowess, the alliance is set to develop transformational solutions that will shape the future of energy and technology.
