Apple Ecosystem Ignites the Creation of Over 150,000 Jobs Worldwide
Since the launch of the government’s manufacturing-related smartphone incentive (PLI) program in August 2021, Apple’s ecosystem has created more than 150,000 direct jobs, according to a new report by The Economic Times issued Monday to him. This development positions the iPhone maker as the number one blue-collar jobs maker in India.
The majority of these workers are young adults between the ages of 19 and 24, and many are entering the workforce for the first time, according to the report. The report also shows that nearly 300,000 new jobs have been created incorrectly.
In addition to direct operations, Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., has about 3,000 employees in India. Its iOS app development ecosystem also helps support more than 1 million businesses. This strategic focus on India, the world’s second-largest smartphone market, comes at a time of geopolitical tensions with the market and changes in the US and China.
It is worth mentioning that Apple started manufacturing programs with the iPhone in India in 2017. Since then, three major contractors - Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron have partnered with suppliers and contractors to assemble the latest iPhone devices and slowly build more features. In total, more than 77,000 jobs were directly created across the country.
In addition, more than 70,000 new jobs were directly created as a result of the rapid expansion of Apple’s supplier ecosystem. Major business contributors to the Apple supply chain include Tata Electronics, Salcomp Technologies, Foxlink, and Sunvoda.
In addition, Avari Technologies, CCL Industries, and Flex have helped create thousands of new jobs. To support the growth of this ecosystem, Apple recently launched a women’s health education program as part of its $50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund.
This comes days after Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajiv Chandrashekhar mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s forward-thinking in Manufacturing Linked Incentive Scheme continues to reach new milestones in manufacturing, exports, and employment.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister announced that iPhone maker Apple has been able to manufacture iPhones worth Rs 1 lakh crore in 24 to 11 months from FY under the PLI scheme.
Conclusion: As Apple's ecosystem evolves, it's not only redefining the tech landscape but also becoming a powerful catalyst for economic growth and opportunity, highlighting the critical role tech giants play in business and emphasizing future formation.
