As AI advances in its approach to surprise tech enthusiasts and developers, Microsoft has yet again come up with a new AI product that is surely about to draw the attention of several aspiring developers.
In its Build developer conference, Microsoft has launched its first AI-based customer product which is powered by the Generative Pre-Trained Transformer-3 (GPT-3). It is a powerful natural language model; developed by OpenAI, and it helps its users build apps without any prior knowledge about computer codes and formulas.
According to Microsoft, this new product will allow its users to write whatever they want the app to do in natural language, and the AI will automatically generate the codes in Power FX, which is an open-source programming language of the Power platform, also developed by Microsoft.
This product is one of the first implementations of GPT-3, which is running on Microsoft Azure that is powered by Azure machine learning. The company claims that this product will solve real-world business complexities.
Power FX is built on Microsoft Excel and is much easier to handle than the traditional coding languages. Even though complex data queries can still create a high learning curve, these added features will successfully lower this curve.
Microsoft's collaboration with OpenAI accelerates breakthrough in Artificial Intelligence
Through the partnership with OpenAI, Microsoft aims to accelerate breakthroughs in its quest for more innovative AI technologies. From jointly developing the first supercomputer on Azure, which is powerful enough to meet the demands of large AI models, to commercializing new AI technologies, this partnership has truly harnessed its powers.
The company claims that by aligning GPT-3 to understand how Power Fx formulas are created, they can leverage the model's strength in natural language and give Power App makers the ability to understand and describe logic as they would to their friends or co-workers. As a result, they will acquire the accurate formula for their apps. The company is also infusing ideas with the ability to 'program by example' using an AI technology called Program Synthesis using Examples (PROSE).
While the platform has converted complex coding into simpler terms, this platform is not the answer to writing full-fledged codings. It is surely a step towards that, but, Microsoft has always encouraged its customers to understand the logic of the application they are building. These features do not recover the need for an individual's understanding of the code they are applying, but are a means to help its users understand the programming language through Power Fx.
This platform is very similar to Google Sheets, PowerBI, and Excel, which uses the natural language query functions and translates them to codes. The only difference is that GPT-3 is more sophisticated and is programmed to understand more complex queries.
This platform is a step towards a long-term solution that enables aspiring programmers and app makers to fully grasp the knowledge of coding programming. With the innovation of such advanced AI technologies, there will be an increase in more complex programming and coding. More complex coding requires an understanding of the program as a whole. To generate a 'real' code, developers have to go through a lot more context.
