Unlock the Future of Mobile Tech with Android 15: Discover the Game-Changing Features Today

Android 15 arrives later this year, and the first developer previews have already been released teasing us with some new features and improvements coming to the software. We commoners will have to wait until the Android 15 beta or Google I/O release in May.

There’s still a lot we don’t know, and Google will no doubt fill in the blanks later, but for now, these are the Android 15 enhancements we’re most excited about.

Satellite communications

Android is catching up with Apple to offer its satellite navigation system, with support already landing in the second Android Developer Preview. But Google could go beyond Apple’s proposal for emergency connectivity only, by offering two-way satellite messages to everyone not just emergency services.

Privacy and security

There isn’t a single change in privacy and security that comes with Android 15, but we’ve heard about some small improvements that should add up to make the Android experience that extra bit safer.

The first is a new privacy sandbox, which allows developers to focus on increasing user privacy, but still be able to deliver personalized ads. Because Google and the gods do love their money. Android 15 apps can also detect when a recording is taking place and will alert you to that fact immediately.

Excellent folding cover screen support

Android devices come in all shapes and sizes, and the software can adapt to a variety of screen sizes, ensuring everything runs smoothly. With the rise of foldable phones including Google's own Android 15 foldable flip phones, each device will have improved support for cover screens or if you prefer, improved support for flippable.

Partial panel participation

Using one of the best video call apps on the desktop, you’ll find that you can share your entire screen or just one window. Android 15 will also bring a similar feature to smartphones, allowing users to share an app without sending anything to the people on the other end of the call.

Better lost device support

While we still don't know when the updated Google Find My Device network will be available, Android 15 makes finding Pixel 8 phones a little easier when they're lost or even when the phone is off. Apple has timed it briefly and now Android is catching up, though it won't be available on the Pixel 7 or older devices.

Close the screen widget

There were lock screen widgets on Android before they disappeared in Android 5 about a decade ago. Fortunately, it looks like Android 15 could bring them back from the dead, or at least it’s not surprising considering that some stray code found in the Android 14 QPR 2 beta suggests that Apple uses lock-screen widgets including iOS 16 and enabled internal networking iOS 17 that is available.

Notifications for cooldowns

The idea is that you can apply a cooldown to all specific reports or conversations, and the number of ringers will slowly decrease with each successive report you get. That makes it that much easier to ignore, though it is not needed for you to go all-in with Do Not Disturb.

Conclusion: Android 15 is a testament to Google’s commitment to innovation, security, and user experience. Whether it’s extending battery life, improving privacy, or improving device connectivity, Android 15 is set to redefine the way we interact with our mobile devices.
