Air India completes the purchase of 800 LEAP engines for its new fleet
Air India has ordered over 800 CFM International Leap-series engines to power its new fleet of 210 Airbus A320neo/A321neos and 190 Boeing 737 MAX family planes.
Air India announced a record purchase of over 800 LEAP engines in February.
According to an official statement issued by the aviation engine manufacturer on Thursday, the businesses also inked a multi-year servicing agreement to cover the airline's full fleet of LEAP engines.
"We are delighted to celebrate with CFM a major deal that will play a key role in our future development," stated Campbell Wilson, Air India's CEO and Managing Director.
"The implementation of the LEAP engine on a larger scale, as well as our services agreement, will assist us in optimizing our operations in terms of environmental footprint and operational cost while benefiting our customers," Wilson added.
The LEAP engine family has accumulated more than 35 million engine flight hours and 15 million flight cycles.
"The renewed trust of Air India is a major milestone in CFM International's history," stated Gael Meheust, president and CEO of CFM International.
"This order strengthens our presence in India and commits us to further supporting Air India's development with the best CFM standards in terms of reliability, efficiency, and customer support," Meheust said.
