ADNOC Partners with G42, Microsoft, and AIQ to Launch Agentic AI in UAE Energy Sector
ADNOC, a leading energy company in the UAE, is pioneering a first-of-its-kind move by adopting agentic AI technology in the energy sector. This partnership with G42, Microsoft, and AIQ is a bold step toward digital transformation in the UAE's oil and gas industry.
The initiative was announced by Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of ADNOC and UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, at the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi on November 4, 2024.
The newest AI breakthrough is agentic AI, which refers to the ability of systems to act independently and execute complicated tasks without human oversight.
New technology will be used to transform the way ADNOC does things. It will use large amounts of data and help make operations more efficient while improving productivity. Seismic surveys will be reduced from months to days, the accuracy of production forecasts will increase by up to 90%, and sustainable improvement in operations achieved.
This development reflects the ambitions of the UAE to become a global leader in artificial intelligence and advanced technology. The AI initiative is led by the UAE government-backed G42 group, which had earlier this year secured an investment of $1.5 billion from Microsoft. The adoption of agentic AI within the UAE energy sector by ADNOC would align with the long-term economic diversification plan for the nation to reduce reliance on oil.
Al Jaber cited the tremendous potential of AI, giving the example of the sudden explosion of AI applications like ChatGPT. He referred to the exponential growth in AI capabilities as "a power surge" for industries around the world. Using agentic AI will improve the efficiency of ADNOC operations while increasing the profile of the UAE around the world.
The UAE has significantly invested in AI technology, developing innovations such as Arabic and Hindi language chatbots. ADNOC's AI initiative is likely to seal the UAE's reputation as a tech-forward nation, securing its position as a key player in the global economy, even as oil demand gradually declines.
